Timeline of Events

Our adult learners realize a "warm hand off" to job training & higher education programs with OTAN's adoption of the Canvas LMS. Distance learning, flexibility & accessibility can thrive with its use in HyFlex classrooms & asynchronous classrooms across California.

In 2015, 114 Community Colleges adopted the Canvas LMS providing professional development & a learning management system for their students. The Pandemic impelled educators to explore different ways to virtually teach & manage their classrooms. In 2020-2021, OTAN & CAEP created a plan to adopt the Canvas LMS due to Moodle sunsetting in 2022. This foundational process led to agencies onboarding & implementing Canvas. In 2023, OTAN added a California Adult Education Canvas Commons, an open educational resource for any adult educator or partner across the state. At this time, OTAN paid for set up costs & up to 50 licenses. Agencies paid for any licenses above that amount. This changed when the California Department of Education via OTAN funded agency licenses & costs beginning in fiscal year 2024.

The OTAN Canvas Project strives to offer choices for learning about Canvas via in-person, virtual, recorded, accessible video presentations & through conference sessions.
